I am a 22 year old, level 5 Broadcast and Digital Journalism student at The University of West London. I hadn't initially applied to study Journalism however, instead enrolling to study English and Creative Writing with a foundation year, and even then I intended to switch to Film Production at MetFilm School the following year. It wasn’t until my university’s Broadcast Journalism course leader noticed my insight during a presentation she gave on censorship in news, as well as my work in a magazine put together by foundation students, that she recommended I switch to Journalism for the rest of my degree.I initially took an interest in the MNGR, a student society and music magazine, due to it being the largest student media publication within UWL, as well as the closest thing the university has to a student newspaper. After submitting articles for the MNGR’s October and December issues, I was elected as the Head of Editorial. Four months later, after writing a series of reviews and interviews for our website and print issues, I would be elected President.I am currently responsible for the overall functioning of the MNGR, as well as ensuring successful communication between all of its members. My personal goal for the MNGR this year is to increase student involvement, and to have a greater number of regular contributors.I have also recently established Devilcorp Review, a guerrilla journalism website focused on raising awareness of the manipulation, deceit and exploitation present within the worldwide Direct Marketing Industry.
