Reading Rep Theatre have announced that Olivier and Grammy award-nominated performer Audrey Brisson (Amélie, Into The Woods, The Flying Lovers of Vitebsk) will star in the world premiere of Jekyll and Hyde.

Gary McNair’s one-person reimagining Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde turns Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic gothic novella on its head, revealing the depths of one person’s psyche and demonstrating how far people will go to hide their innermost secrets.

The productions creative team features three-time Olivier and Grammy award-nominated Michael Fentiman (director), Max Jones (production designer), Emily Irish (lighting designer), Richard Hammarton (sound designer), Annie Kershaw (assistant director), and Sarah Harkins (casting director).

As part of the theatre’s recently announced ticketing strategy to combat the cost-of-living crisis’ effect on accessibility to theatre, all tickets will be under £20 and 10% of all Jekyll and Hyde tickets will be free for those who can’t afford them.

A community project entitled ‘Stranger Than Fiction’ will run alongside the performances. The project will examine the person who inspired Stevenson to write the novel.

The show is the first production in the theatre’s tenth anniversary season. Other shows include a run of A Christmas Carol over the festive period, Harriet Madeley’s adaptation of Hedda Gabler from 22 February to 11 March, and an adaptation of J M Barrie’s Peter Pan in April.

Jekyll and Hyde will run from 10 October to 29 October 2022. Tickets can be purchased through the theatre’s website.
