Apple TV’s acclaimed dramedy Physical is set to end with its upcoming ten-episode third season, debuting this summer.

Set in the beach utopia of 1980s San Diego, the dark comedy stars Australian actress Rose Byrne as Sheila Rubin, who is a seemingly fulfilled housewife supporting her husband’s campaign for State Assembly. But not all is as it seems, as we soon discover Sheila’s hilariously dark impression of the world around her.

As she battles her inner demons, Sheila is introduced to the world of aerobics providing her with a new release and way of life. In season two, Sheila successfully launched her first fitness video but soon found herself faced with unfamiliar obstacles. In Murray Bartlett’s new character Vinnie Green, Sheila met her match and was forced to fight to outrun her competitor to sustain her growing fitness empire.

Zooey Deschanel is set to join the final season as Kelli, a network sitcom star. Kelli’s path is set to cross with Sheila when she decides to enter the thriving fitness industry.

As filming on the final series recently came to an end, Rose Byrne released a statement with creator and executive producer Annie Weisman, ensuring fans they won’t be disappointed with Sheila’s send off. “We are so grateful to Apple, Tomorrow Studios, and all our creative collaborators for the chance to bring Sheila to life in all her gritty glory. With this final season, Sheila’s three act saga of rebellion, recovery, and redemption comes to the satisfying conclusion that she and her fans so richly deserve. We feel so proud to share this last chapter with everyone.”

Matt Cherniss, head of programming for Apple TV, also acknowledged the show’s success: “We are aware of just how much of an impact this character and story has had on audiences around the world and can’t wait for them to join us on this final exhilarating ride.”

As Sheila’s story prepares to reach its climax, you can rest assured that Byrne shows no signs of slowing down. Reuniting with Seth Rogen, the pair are set to star as platonic best friends who rekindle their bond in Apple TV’s new original comedy series Platonic, premiering on May 24th. Mirroring their real-life friendship, Byrne and Rogen are sure to delight fans in this light-hearted comedy.

The third and final series of Physical debuts on Apple TV on August 2nd.
