Wandering Wolf // Wave & Rome
Breaking the trend of upbeat, summery tracks which Apple Music has seen fit to introduce me to so far, ‘Wandering Wolf’ by Nashville based indie rockers, Wave & Rome, is a purposeful construction with a sombre lyrical subject: “and oh it was hard to watch you / it was hard to watch you go”.
The track is incredibly well orchestrated; emotionally wrought piano scales that Debussy would be proud of are layered with Sam Tinnesz’s delicately controlled falsetto, making for truly enveloping listening. Perhaps such a high quality outcome is not surprising, as this song is the product of a three year collaboration with Josh Farro (Farro, Paramore) and Matt Bronleewe (Hayley Williams, Hayden Panettiere).
A well thought out, well executed melody which invites comparison to Cary Brothers, Wave & Rome have earnt themselves a spot in my iTunes library with ‘Wandering Wolf’.
