Ana De Armas is in talks to star in John Wick spinoff Ballerina, with Len Wiseman (Underworld) already tapped for director.

The film will follow its eponymous protagonist, a young assassin/ballerina who seeks revenge against the people who killed her family. Although played by Unity Phelan at the time, we have seen a short glimpse of the character in John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, and since then rumours around a potential spin-off have continued to grow.

Ballerina is the latest expansion of the John Wick franchise. The next mainline instalment, John Wick: Chapter 4, will be released 22 May 2022, followed by a prequel spinoff series The Continental. Stacked with a star-studded cast, including Mel Gibson (Braveheart, Lethal Weapon) and Colin Woodell (The Purge, The Originals), the TV mini-series will focus on the chain of hotels central to the franchise which act as a neutral territory for members of the criminal underworld.

Ballerina will reunite John Wick producers Basil Iwanyk, Erica Lee and Chad Stahelski with the Lionsgate studios team. Returning John Wick crew members also include scriptwriter Shay Hatten, who has previously written for John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum and Army Of The Dead. It is not yet confirmed whether Keanu Reeves will feature in the female-led spin-off. The actor, however, will serve as an executive producer on set.

Ana De Armas is probably best known for her role in the most recent addition in the James Bond saga, No Time To Die, as well as Knives Out and Blade Runner 2049. Before Ballerina hits our screens, the Cuban actress will feature in Deep Water with Ben Affleck, the Russo Brothers’ The Gray Man and Blonde, a fictionalised Marilyn Monroe biopic pencilled in for a 2022 release.
