Bluedot festival has announced its lineup, and it’s probably the best British summer festival lineup that has come out for 2017. It features huge names like Pixies, Orbital, alt-J, Soulwax and The Moonlandingz to name but a few. Bluedot has one of the most unique USPs too, in that it’s situated in the Jodrell Bank observatory in Cheshire, and is equally focussed on science as well as music.
Springing up in 2016 fully formed, Bluedot was a brand-spanking new festival that boasted massive acts like Jean Michel-Jarre, Underworld, Caribou and Public Service Broadcasting. Only in its infancy, the festival has already achieved a unique place within the festival world. Although you might not think the two worlds of music and science are compatible, the success of 2016 and the way the festival seamlessly melded the two fields together suggests otherwise. Eno set up a light and sound installation, Brian Cox gave talks, and judging by the photos on the website from last year, it seemed to be a case of: find out about space in the afternoon, then listen to the best of the best of electronic music at night- you can’t do that at Reading and Leeds.
I highly encourage you to go to Bluedot, not just because it is currently boasting the best lineup of any festival this summer, but because it is one of the most unique festivals around at the moment.
