A Love Letter to CBBC’s Golden Era — 10 Shows That Will Unlock Some Core Memories

10. Escape From Scorpion Island

Another strong adventure show from CBBC. Again, Bear Grylls could learn a thing or two. Caroline Flack, Reggie Yates, Myleene Klass, Johny Pitts, and JK and Joel (another iconic CBBC duo) were all presenters throughout the five seasons.

The programme involved two teams — Team Sting and Team Claw battling out in physical and mental challenges with the ultimate aim of escaping Scorpion Island. It was survival of the fittest, though, as you could lose, gain, and swap players depending on challenge results. I would definitely have preferred to tough it out on Scorpion Island in the sunshine than be declared the Saboteur in Trapped. Reggie > The Caretaker.

So many more!

This list has only touched the surface of CBBC’s elite roster of 2010s TV shows. From drama to documentary, it was a golden era of children’s television. So many presenters started out there — Stacey Dooley (Show Me What You’re Made Of), Jake Humphrey (Bamzooki — another niche show truly ahead of its time), Rav Wilding (Hero Squad), Sam and Mark (TMi, Copycats).

Other great suggestions that came flooding into my WhatsApp as soon as I hit the group chats to ask people about their core noughties CBBC memories were Kerching!, Basil Brush, Bear Behaving Badly, The Sarah Jane Adventures, Arthur, Dani’s House, Crush, Get Your Own Back, 4 O’Clock Club, Smile, Best of Friends, The Crust, Chute, Hotel Trouble, The Queen’s Nose, and, of course, the masterpiece that is Horrible Histories.

I can’t lie, I’m getting a bit emotional talking about all these childhood memories. *Wipes tear away* — but I’m not crying, the tree pollen count is just high, and like Tracy Beaker, I struggle with hayfever.
