The producers of Sunset Boulevard have announced that they will resume live performances this June, starting at the Alexandra Palace Theatre.
Mazz Murray will lead the cast as the ageing silent-screen actor, Norma Desmond, who has previously been played by Patti LuPone and Glenn Close, among others.
Murray will perform alongside Kayi Ushe as Joe Gillis, Zizi Strallen as Betty Schaefer, and Alex Bourne as Max von Mayerling. They will be joined by Sharif Afifi as Artie Green, Christopher Howell as Manfred Sheldrake, and David Shaw-Parker as Cecil B. DeMille, along with 11 other ensemble members.
Andrew Lloyd Webber’s concert production, based on Billy Wilder’s 1950 film, first opened in London in 1993. It went on to win a Tony Award for Best Musical in 1995. The musical includes songs such as ‘With One Look’ and ‘New Ways to Dream.’
Directed by Jordan Murphy and conducted by Alex Parker, the upcoming concert will feature a 28-piece orchestra playing David Cullen and Lloyd Webber’s score.
The production will feature choreography by Joanna Goodwin, lighting by Jack Weir, and sound design by Paul Smith. Wig design will be by Sam Cox, and keyboard programming by Stuart Andrews.
Other productions to have announced their return to the stage include Les Misérables and Tina – The Tina Turner Musical, both of which are also hoping to return in three months’ time.
