RSC Recruits Five New Trustees

The Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) has appointed five new trustees as part of a recruitment campaign focused on improving diversity among the current RSC board members. 

The new trustees are Andrew Miller, Amanda Parker, Winsome Pinnock, Justine Themen, and Ayanna Thompson. Their occupations range from entertainment to academia, with writers, third sector workers and professors among the new appointments.

The appointments were announced following an EGM attended by the existing board members.

The Chair of the RCS Board, Nigel Hugill, said in a statement “as we have moved through this pandemic, the Board has continued to lead the RSC commitment to be diverse, progressive, relevant and ambitious.  These five new appointments are unequivocal demonstration of those commitments and they share with all our Board members terrific skills, great experience, enormous range, and unwavering enthusiasm. 

“The public recruitment campaign generated enormous interest with almost 350 applicants.  So many exceptional candidates showing a passion for theatre, the arts and education by putting themselves forward is an inspiration in these testing times.”

The new trustees will be joining the current 13 Board members. The RSC is also looking to appoint a new Chair with Hugill’s term ending in April. A successor is expected to be appointed by the Spring.

Earlier this month, the RSC announced an upcoming collaboration with video game designers that will allow audiences to participate in a new virtual reality production. The show is inspired by the characters and setting of A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
