BioWare has confirmed the release date for the upcoming remaster of the original Mass Effect trilogy.
Titled Mass Effect Legendary Edition, the collection will include all three games and over 40 DLC packs when it is launched on May 14. BioWare also confirmed in a press release that the game will be available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC via Steam and Origin and will also be forwards compatible with PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
Speaking about the project, lead writer and Project Director Mac Walters said:
“It’s been an incredible journey revisiting the stories, characters and iconic moments of the Mass Effect trilogy, enhancing the experience for modern platforms while staying true to the spirit of the original.
Remastering a game, let alone three, is a huge undertaking as there’s over 100 hours of gameplay included, but we wanted to do this for our fans as well as a new generation of gamers looking to jump into the iconic story of Shepard.”
The original trilogy was released between 2007 and 2012. A new title in the series was also confirmed to be in development at the Game Awards in 2020 and will be the first new release in the Mass Effect franchise since 2017’s Mass Effect Andromeda.
Mass Effect Legendary Edition will be available on Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC from May 14 and is available to pre-order now.
