As the second single from Darwin Deez’s forthcoming album Double Down, ‘Last Cigarette’ continues in jangling indie-pop. Darwin Deez quirkily compares the addiction of an unhealthy romance to that of the habit of smoking. ‘I’m leaving you this Tuesday, before I lose a lung’ spools Deez with a coolly cynical tone, before unraveling his solemn sung verse into an uplifting chorus.

Despite Deez’s often-contemptuous nature, his music consistently beholds elevating indie qualities. And ‘Last Cigarette’ is no exception to the rule. Deez has explained, ““This song applies to my relationship with girls, not to my actual relationship to smoking. It’s the people we know are bad choices that are the hardest to resist.”
Double Down sees release September 18th on Lucky Number.
