Single Review: Hit and Run // Larkins

Back in the latter half of March; Josh, Dom, Jamie and Matt were over at Sugar House, putting some long hours in at the studio. Recording a track, originally debuted during their headline set in Huddersfield last November, that would eventually become not only their first release of this year, but their debut single too: ‘Hit and Run’. Yet another solid step in their increasingly momentous rise through the ranks.

Instantaneously the listener is subjected to a series of “oh’s” in the form of harmonised gang vocals, mimicking the cruelly catchy lead riff – which Dom plays for much of the song’s duration – that joins with due haste. Josh’s powerfully emotive tones consummately ring true as ever – cunningly negated by Matt’s offbeat drumming and Jamie’s simple but effective bass line – expertly utilised throughout. The stripped-back verses, at times merely backed by the core riff (only palm-muted) are adeptly juxtaposed with a chorus of sharp, biting chords and virtually rhetorical proclamations. Imparting lyrics such as “is it all in the way you move?” and “God knows, I’m into you”, with astute dexterity.

‘Hit and Run’ is available from 30th April on iTunes, Google Play, Spotify and SoundCloud. Give them a follow on Twitter, drop them a like on Facebook  & for everything else Larkins, head over here.
