The National Theatre officially entered the streaming wars last week with the debut of their new subscription service, NT at Home.
After the success of their streamed productions during the summer lockdown, which brought in over 15 million viewers worldwide, NT at Home allows audiences to enjoy the professionally recorded theatre productions all year round. A subscription to the site costs £9.99 a month, with a yearly subscription available at £99.98. The site also allows viewers to rent individual plays for a limited period for £9.98.

The variety of plays on the service include productions that were previously streamed online, as well as productions that have been screened in cinemas. The site also features productions from the NT archive which have not been officially screened before.
The National Theatre had previously planned to reopen in November with a production of The Death of England: Delroy by Clint Dyer and Roy Williams, but this closed after just two nights due to the second national lockdown.
The NT at Home lineup William Shakespeare’s Coriolanus, starring Tom Hiddleston, Federico García Lorca’s Yerma, starring Billie Piper, and Anton Checkov’s The Cherry Orchard, starring Zoë Wanamaker. Other productions are expected to be added in due course.
