Theatre Space North East Hansel and Gretel

Sunderland-based Theatre Space North East is bringing a COVID-safe production of the classic fairytale Hansel and Gretel to the region this December.

A bright orange, purpose-built tent will house a total of twenty shows across ten venues. Opening on the 11th of December at Jarrow Hall, the company will tour the region before finishing their run at St. Andrew’s Church in Roker on the 23rd of December.

Each performance will be capped at 36 audience-members, bookable in groups of up to six from the same household. Upon arrival each group is assigned their own socially-distanced space in which they can set up their own seating (to minimise clean downs).

Theatre groups in the North East have been provided £700,000 of funding from the Cultural Recovery Fund. Theatre Space North East have themselves been awarded £50,000.

In line with the company’s previous winter productions, audiences are asked to bring along any non-perishable food items they may have to donate to local food banks. A collection will take place at each performance.

Ticket-holders will automatically receive tickets for rescheduled dates in January if the performances cannot go ahead. Tickets for the show can be purchased here.
