The Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden has announced its plans for celebrating the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022.

The celebration will last four days and take place over an extended weekend, with an extra bank holiday being given on the 3rd June.

The UK government have described the long event as a “blockbuster weekend of celebrations” that will mix “the best of British ceremonial splendour and pageantry with cutting edge artistic and technological displays,” according to WhatsOnStage

The celebrations will take place across the UK and Commonwealth to mark 70 years since the Queen was first crowned in 1952.

The Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden stated that “we can all look forward to a special, four-day Jubilee weekend, when we will put on a spectacular, once-in-a-generation show that mixes the best of British ceremonial splendour with cutting edge art and technology.”

Mr Dowden also stated that “it will bring the entire nation and the Commonwealth together in a fitting tribute to Her Majesty’s reign.”

The weekend has been specifically designed by some of the “UK’s leading creative minds” and is expected to “use new technology in exciting ways.” More details are expected in the coming months.
