Described as “buoyant” and “infectious”, it’s an odd mix of characteristics that make up El Libero’s new track. ‘Come a Little Closer’ popped up on the band’s Spotify page in 2013, showing the band playing around with acoustic melodies and perhaps more conventional vocal arrangements. By contrast, the new track, supported by a shiny new music video, props itself up with an addictive electric guitar riff and some experimental usage of the delay effect.

Based around Marilyn Monroe’s 2011 biography ‘Metamorphosis’, ‘Butterfly’ serves as a narrative, an ode to hope and light in doubt and darkness. El Libero have drawn on some of their broader stylings to create an account that moves slightly away from the typical indie sound, whilst retaining the harmonies and defining traits that identify it as their own.
As an introduction to their debut EP, ‘Butterfly’ shows a confident and well-balanced act owning the peculiarities that set it apart from the rest.
