Released on the 1st of August, Control of the Going’s ‘Wild Flower’ is a song doused in strength and contrast from start to finish. Describing their sound as “neo psychedelic/post punk”, the Mancunian band delivers a satisfying amalgamation of the two, moulding synth and guitar riffs around the shadowy vocals of lead singer, Liam Hart.

The key to the wonder of this song is the perpetual theme of freedom that appears throughout – something the band have achieved in all their work, including in their debut EP, Epilepsy Bus Ride. From the shimmering, high-pitched introduction to the beginning of the low (and sometimes monotonous) lyrics, ‘Wild Flower’ embodies a vast range of musical genres. From the first listen, the catchy repetition of instrumental sections sticks in the mind of the listener, thereby exposing how successful the song really is.
