London’s Pleasance Theatre has announced that they are restarting live performances as of next month.

The first show, Godot is a Woman, which will open on 11th of November. The female-led comedy show was in tech in the venue’s studio before they were forced to close in March. This will be followed by an 11-week theatre and cabaret season.

Other productions are Charles Court Opera’s Express G&S. This stages the complete works of Gilbert and Sullivan, and will run from the 17th to the 22nd of November.

Their Christmas season will feature a Queer Cabaret Season, featuring shows such as Bitten Peach, Pecs Drag Kings, and Cocoa Butter Club, running from the 1st to the 17th of December.

The Pleasance, who also had to cancel their run at this year’s Edinburgh Festival Fringe, have completely overhauled the inside of their venue to make it compatible with COVID-19 restrictions. There is a one-way system and seating arranged in a cabaret style to ensure social distancing. Where two-metre distance is not possible, there will be perspex screens between the seats.

Before each performance, there will be a deep clean and disinfection of the auditorium and communal spaces.

Anthony Alderson, director of Pleasance Theatre Trust, said “this reopening season is all about bringing back that undefinable Fringe spirit that embodies all of us.”
