In April, Olivia Wilde excitedly announced the cast for her second feature film, Don’t Worry Darling, including big stars such as Florence Pugh, Chris Pine, and Shia LaBeouf.
Yesterday, however, the director tweeted a picture of her new star, Harry Styles, with Pugh, captioned: “Jack & Alice. #DontWorryDarling”.
The former One Direction member has not only topped the charts with his new album, Fine Line and hits such as the ever-so-catchy “Watermelon Sugar”, but also begun his serious acting career with his role as Alex in Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk in 2017. It’s reported that he’ll take over Shia LaBeouf’s role due to scheduling conflicts.
New Line and Wilde have kept the plot for the film, written by Katie Silberman, pretty under wraps, but it’s described as a psychological thriller about an unhappy housewife living in a dystopian 1950s. Although unconfirmed, Wilde’s tweet hints at Harry Styles and Florence Pugh starring as the central couple. The director will also have a supporting role in the film, as well as Dakota Johnson, the main star of the Fifty Shades of Grey franchise, and Star Trek’s Chris Pine.

Don’t Worry Darling will be Katie Silberman’s second project with Olivia Wilde after she also wrote the script for her directorial debut, Booksmart, which follows teenagers Amy (Kaitlyn Denver) and Molly (Beanie Feldstein) on their only and messy night out on the eve of their graduation.
Booksmart received glowing reviews when it came out last year, including a Golden Globe nomination for Beanie Feldstein, so it’s no surprise people are excited to see what Wilde will do next, especially with the new casting. Fans immediately hopped onto social media to share their excitement and Wilde even gained 48,000 new Twitter followers after the announcement.
Due to these uncertain times and the threat of COVID-19, it’s difficult to say when filming will begin, however production is rumoured to start this autumn.
