Leicester Square has launched its first movie audio walking tour, a free outing available for the whole family.

Coinciding with its Scenes in the Square statue trail which opened to the public in February, the audio tour highlights eight icons throughout a century of cinema.

Presented by Sky Cinema’s Alex Zane, the audio tour features specifically curated interviews, movie clips and trivia for each individual statue. Designed to be fully socially distant, it allows users to listen at their own pace. The audio tour is a welcome back experience to Leicester Square, gearing up family film lovers for major film releases returning to the cinema in the upcoming months.

You can enjoy a marmalade sandwich with Paddington Bear, have a dance with Mary Poppins or enjoy some slapstick with Laurel and Hardy.

Alongside these, screen icons Gene Kelly, Bugs Bunny, Mr Bean, Batman and Wonder Woman are all there, offering something for each movie lover no matter the age.

Listen to songs such as ‘Singin’ in the Rain’ and ‘Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious,’ or hear interviews with Paddington actor Hugh Bonneville and Patricia Ward Kelly, Gene Kelly’s wife and biographer.

The audio tour is free to enjoy, all that is needed to listen is your phone and preferred podcast platform.

When in Leicester Square, simply locate the character map amongst the flower beds – opposite Masion Du Mezze and Burger King – and follow the instructions from there to get the “immersive experience” out of each icon and statue.

Leicester Square has been the home of cinema in London for a century, overlooked by Odeon’s flagship cinema, where larger films will have their UK premiere.

The statues and audio tour are currently in permanent residency in Leicester Square.
