It seems that despite the current pandemic, the film studio A24 is not slowing down its steady stream of content.

They have just announced, in partnership with Apple, another film titled On the Rocks starring Bill Murray, Rashinda Jones and Marlon Wayans.

From Lost in Translation writer/director Sofia Coppola, On the Rocks follows the troubled relationship between happily married daughter (Jones) and eccentric playboy father (Murray) as they navigate around New York in a noteworthy adventure. Together the pair must try and figure out if her husband (Marlon Wayans) is having an affair while struggling with conflicting points of view and trying to come closer together.

This film marks a significant change in tone for both A24 and Coppola. In the past A24 has been noted for its darker titles like Hereditary and The Witch, so On the Rocks is sure to give the studio a look at new horizons with more light-hearted films. As for Coppola, On the Rocks marks her eighth feature film and is something different from all her previous works. During an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Coppola said that she “wanted to do something that was a little bit lighter and more playful with a lot of heart and sincerity”. With the way things are in the world currently, I certainly am not complaining about a lighter tone and hope this film will be an excuse for a laugh and warm the heart even if just for a little bit.

The movie will also mark the third collaboration between Bill Murray and Sofia Coppola after Lost in Translation and A Very Murray Christmas, so it’ll be great to see what this talented duo will get up to in this latest project.

On the Rocks is set to hit theatres and Apple TV+ this October via A24 and Apple Original Films.
