Track Review: 4 Miles // TRASH

Think Alice in Wonderland. Think Alice in Wonderland mauled and fallen and transformed into a sinister dark reigning queen of the forbidden forest, hooked on LSD and meth and coke and all the trippy hallucinogens you were always warned not to take. Think Alice in Wonderland with double the magic, smothered in black glitter and violet velvet, floating in a dreamlike rapture at Woodstock in the sixties when Hendrix was at his most fatal high.

It’s the sort of psychedelic pop imagery Chesterfield quartet TRASH project onto your mind with the first listen of their single ‘4 Miles’. Pulled from their forthcoming ‘Urban Glow’ EP, TRASH liberate the world with a glittering, surf-rock sound that thrives on jangly art-pop and sparkly garage melodies. The band’s music could not be farther than what their band name could imply; they unleash a floating, surreal sound onto soul and body, danceable neo-punk that takes the listener through spiritual journeys with tender grunge euphoria. It is a brilliant, shoegaze-inspired track, a hybrid of garage-poppers Best Friends and the ethereal nature of Peace.

There is an underlying sweet, romantic allure under the surreal sound of it all, entrancing those who listen from the very start: “Come on, come on, come with me/ come on, come on, I’ll make you see/ you belong with me…”  Festival slots at Tramlines and Y Not safely under their belt, TRASH are ready to take England under their spell with anecdotes of charming guitars with fluid vocals. They are truly a dream in song form, and a full EP release could not come any sooner.
