It looks like Lulu Wang might be adding a new project to her already impressive catalogue.

Observer reported that Wang is set to direct an adaptation of Hirokazu Kore-eda’s 2013 film, Like Father, Like Son, which centers around two families whose six-year-old sons have been switched at birth.

If the reports are to be believed, then the film is slated to release under Focus Features, with playwright Sarah Ruhl set to pen the screenplay while Wang and Josh McLaughlin are attached to produce the project. Since the film is still in the early stages of development, other details like casting and release date have yet to be revealed.

Like Father, Like Son (2013) directed by Hirokazu Kore-eda ...

Like Father, Like Son received several accolades from a number of film festivals, including Cannes, where the film premiered and won the Jury Prize award. When news of the story broke, Wang took to Twitter to comment on the leaks.

“Leaks on projects are really obnoxious because it lacks total context and all relevant perspective. If people wanted to know what a filmmaker is working on, perhaps they could actually ask the filmmakers involved? I’ve always been very transparent about my passions,” tweeted the director.

“P.S. I don’t believe in ‘remakes’. I’ll leave it at that for now,” she added in a following tweet.

Wang’s previous film titled The Farewell, which was based on the director’s real-life experiences with her grandmother’s illness, received critical acclaim and won the Best Feature award at the Independent Spirit Awards, while lead actress Awkwafina won a Golden Globe for “Best Actress in a Motion Picture — Comedy or Musical.”

Wang also has her hands full with other projects, like an Amazon series starring Nicole Kidman titled The Expatriates, on which Wang is attached as a writer, director, and an executive producer. She’s also involved in another film titled Children of the New World, which is an adaptation of Alexander Weinstein’s collection of short stories.
