Following the government’s unveiling of the Culture Recovery Fund, which offers grants for artists and venues for up to £3 million, Arts Council England have now provided more details on how to apply for this life-changing funding, which is designed to support artists and companies who have been impacted by the Coronavirus pandemic.

This scheme, which is part of the government’s £1.57 billion investment package in the arts, offers grants valued between £50,000 and £3 million.

These grants are available to English organisations that are fully registered at either the Charity Commission or Companies House. Applicants to the grant will also need to provide at least one year’s full independently certified or audited financial statements. Applications open on 10th August.

All applications will be processed through Arts Council England’s Grantium portal. With only £500 million being allocated for this project, Arts Council England say that they expect “competition for these funds [to] be very high.” Subsequently, they also told prospective applicants that “only those able to demonstrate genuine need should apply.”

In the case of the Culture Recovery Fund, Arts Council England hopes that by March 2021, successful applicants are “operating on a sustainable, cost efficient basis” and are at least partially opened, if not fully opened.

Further to this, Arts Council England states that the fund will not cover costs beyond March 2021, as well as costs that can be covered by other Government support schemes. The guidance also states that it cannot cover “significant historic debt” or new projects that “do not represent a value for money approach.”
