When it was announced at E3 that Fallout 4 would feature an exclusive Pip-Boy edition for fans to pre order, the excitement was palpable and pre order opening couldn’t come fast enough.
This special edition of the game, to be released on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC on November 10th, would feature a copy of the game and a host of collectible items. Most coveted of all was an actual Pip-Boy device for players to wear. The device would be fully operational and would sync with a players smartphone to help them keep track of their game progress and inventory.
Now it seems that excitement has had a price – it’s been confirmed by Bethesda’s Marketing VP Pete Hines that no more Pip-Boys can be made. In an interview with Gamespot, Hines explained that demand has been so high that they are simply unable to make anymore:
“We reached a point where we’d go back to the factories and they were like, ‘guys, this is it, sorry.’…We made a s**tload of Pip-Boys, and we went back and made more, and went back and made more. I kept seeing stuff about ‘Oh, you only did a few thousand.’ No – we did a ton of these thing. I think we did more of these things than we did for any collector’s edition we’ve ever done, ever.”
In the UK, GAME announced they would exclusively carry the special edition – which led to complaints when pre-orders could only be made via desktop PC’s and that stock initially thought to be for pre order will now be store stock instead.
Fallout 4 will be released on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC on November 10th 2015. For more information visit Fallout4.com
