Introducing: Broken Witt Rebels
Hometown: Birmingham
Listen To: ‘Shake Me Down’ & ‘Cloud My Day’

In recent times Rock and Roll could be said to be somewhat of a dead genre. Dad’s air guitaring to Clapton and Dire Straits has never been fashionable. Neither was Kid Rock’s tragically uncool revival of ‘Sweet Home Alabama’, not to forget Ozzy and Kelly Osbourne’s priceless duet. All that said, the rise of the Kings of Leon and more recently Royal Blood has demonstrated that contemporary rock ought to be taken more seriously.

Birmingham quartet Broken Witt Rebels are the latest band to join rock 2.0, and they have arrived kicking the door off the hinges. Here at The Indiependent we previously reviewed the bands fuelled single ‘Shake Me Down’ back in March. We tipped them for great growth as a result of forthcoming nationwide tours. Since then, the lads from Brum are buoyed by recent performances at Camden Calling and the iconic Jazz Café. The band have acquired an ever growing cult fan base over the past few months as a result.

‘Shake Me Down’ has reached over 100,000 plays on Soundcloud and ‘Cloud My Day’ has reached 60,000 on Spotify as a subsequent effect of frenetic live prowess. For those who are unfamiliar with BWR, the tracks reach pure havoc with fast dominant guitar ante courtesy of James Tranters layered work. The bands oeuvre is manufactured with classic rock and rootsy garage blues. A sound that whisks you away to a Louisiana bar ordering a several Jack Daniels. More specifically ‘Shake Me Down’ has an increasingly brooding desert ambiance similar to The Kings of Leon’s hugely successful album Only by the Night. As for the vocals, Danny Core’s unique gravelly growl comes with a likeness of Benjamin Booker or Dan Auerbach.

On the back of a successful few months the band’s next show will be on the 30th of August at the Actress and Bishop in Birmingham. It’s the Lifest 2015, all in support of Oxfam and Cancer Research UK. The Rebels are looking ahead to the event with anticipation of playing their songs to familiar and fresh faces in the crowd.

This band are on the up so join the club. ‘Up the Rebels’
