Track Review: Tears of Joy // SURGE

SURGE’s aim is simple. They want to “help rejuvenate the somewhat drab state of today’s ‘ruled by manufactured-pop’ music industry” and their new track ‘Tears of Joy’ will certainly invigorate not only a music chart but the dance floor of any venue its played in. The first release for the four piece since forming, ‘Tears of Joy’ is so energising and loud, full of jangly guitars and thumping drums, with lead singer George King’s smooth vocals sounding simply divine. It’s the perfect soundtrack to long summer nights and would sound right at home at any festival.

SURGE cite Arctic Monkeys, The Libertines and The Strokes and these indie influences can certainly be heard throughout the track. Yet the band still make the sound their own and have a fresh approach to the genre and industry. They are currently playing around Colchester and will be headlining at GlastoBull Festival.
