From the moment Hannah Boleyn‘s signature soulful vocals kick in, it’s difficult to concentrate on anything else. Her uniquely captivating sound dominates this track, as the passionate tones of her lower register contrast effectively with the soaring melodies of an irresistibly catchy chorus.

‘Tough Love’ is not as vocally complex as some of Boleyn’s earlier releases: ‘So OK’ and ‘When You’re Gone’ are better demonstrations of her outstanding ability as a singer. But this lively track (co-written with Jamiroquai guitarist Rob Harris) is undoubtedly the most chart-friendly of her releases thus far, really strengthening her credentials as a songwriter capable of making some serious waves.

Hannah’s debut album, The Boleyn Affair, is scheduled for release this October – and if the quality of her output so far is anything to go by, it ought to be well worth a listen – if just to get another fix of her intoxicating voice.
