After the beautiful and bizarre High Life saw blockbuster-star-turned-indie-darling Robert Pattinson team up with acclaimed French auter Claire Denis, the film industry’s most unlikely duo will reunite for a new project. In this adaptation of Denis Johnson’s 1986 novel, Pattinson will star alongside Margaret Qualley, who broke through in 2019 with her role of the lascivious Pussycat in Once Upon A Time…in Hollywood.

Set in 1984 during the Nicaraguan Revolution, the film follows a mysterious English businessman and headstrong American journalist who strike up a passionate romance. They soon become embroiled in a dangerous labyrinth of lies and conspiracies and are forced to try and escape the country, with only each other to trust and rely on.

plot details according to Deadline

With a captivating plot and two serious stars signed up, it’s no surprise that The Stars at Noon was picked up by A24 for a reported seven-figure sum, having previously released the Pattinson-starring indies Good Time and The Lighthouse. Claire Denis is a filmmaker that is both thematically versatile and critically acclaimed (her 1999 film Beau Travail came fourth on BBC’s recent poll of The 100 Greatest Films Directed by Women), and so palpable hype accompanied the announcement that A24 had acquired distribution rights.

Robert Pattinson is currently filming for his starring role in Matt Reeves’ The Batman, whilst Margaret Qualley will also be busy filming the psychological horror A Head Full of Ghosts. Though it’ll be a while before we see The Stars at Noon, we can only dream what this tour de force of a trio will cook up whilst we wait.
