Listen To: ‘Blueness is a Heavy Stone’

Hailing from Essex and East London border, Cavalcade are made up of Connor Duggan (Lead Vocals/Guitar) Jack Campbell (Lead Guitar/Backing Vocals) Tom Nunn (Bass) and Steve Norris (Drums).

They’ve already made quite an impression with their debut single ‘Alkaline’, and now they’re keen to lend their two penn’orth to the all-important topic of mental health with their new track ‘Blueness is a Heavy Stone’.

The song also wrestles with the weight of the personal loss experienced by lead guitarist Jack Campbell, after he lost his father to a heart attack earlier this year. Losing a loved one can sometimes make it feel impossible to cope, and so it’s rallying that Jack and his fellow bandmates have come together to produce a song that cuts through that grief-induced helplessness and created a rallying rock anthem that suggests there’s a light at the end of the tunnel after all.

The track was produced and mixed by Jonathan Hucks, and although it was released at the beginning of October, has started to gain more traction recently after the four piece was featured in The Unsigned Guide’s Spotlight Blog in November: the month dedicated to growing facial hair in support of Men’s Mental Health foundation.

Although mental health problems can affect anyone, the music industry has a high number of artists who suffer from mental health problems as a consequence of the high stress environment of performing, and also the darker side of the rock ‘n’ roll lifestyle. It’s great that Cavalcade are a band who aren’t afraid to start a conversation – and in such a catchy fashion as well. We’re confident that with their heavy sound and equally intense subject matter, music fans at their live shows are bound to have a good time.

Recently signed to Sheffield based indie label, These Bloody Thieves Records, Cavalcade have established themselves on the live circuit in London, and have also performed at Isle of Wight Festival. If by any chance you’re planning on being in Gibraltar in December (random, we know), you can catch them then. Otherwise, regulars on the London gigging scene should keep their eyes peeled for upcoming tour dates.
