Warm, dreamy and delicate, the latest release from British singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Amy Studt is an essay in faded retro. ‘I Was Jesus in Your Veins’ is the first track in a series of songs that will be released every six weeks and ultimately compile the track listing on Studt’s debut album. The track is imbued with cinematic melancholy and opens the songstress’s upcoming long-player, “a narrative diary of depression, hope and redemption”.
A forlorn and intimate lament with a chorus shining from just below the surface, ‘I Was Jesus in Your Veins’ wouldn’t sound out of place on Lana Del Rey’s Ultraviolence. Studt details the song with a hazy brushwork that invites the listener to drift off into a heartfelt daze. Despite the heavy lyrical content, Studt’s gentle, lazy vocals hint at a ray of sunlight through the grey clouds.
Live dates will be announced to coincide with further single releases, but you can catch Amy Studt Plus Special Guests at Old St Pancras Church in London on 5th July.
