Five years since the release of their last single, Californian indie-rock band Rooney return to the music scene with summer track, ‘My Heart Beats 4 U’, a tune largely reminiscent of the group’s traditional, laid-back sound.
Rising to fame in the noughties with songs such as ‘When Did Your Heart Go Missing?’ and ‘I’m Shakin”, the band (fronted by Princess Diaries heart-throb Robert Schwartzman) released their latest album, Washed Away, in May, and now consists of an (almost entirely) new line-up of members.
‘My Heart Beats 4 U’ combines Rooney’s typical subtle guitar riffs and vocal harmonies, resulting in an easy-going, summer tune concerning young love and taking risks. “We burn a little brighter / We fly a little higher” Schwartzman sings, the chorus lyrics reminding fans of chilled-out summer days, spent listening to the very band that sound-tracked their teenage years. This song is the perfect throw-back tune, and definitely worth a listen if you were a Rooney fan back in the day.
