Title: The Secret Adversary

Author: Agatha Christie

What I Think So Far:  As the first detective novel I have ever read, I’m baffled as to why I didn’t pick up one sooner. The Secret Adversary is the novel in which Agatha Christie first introduces the dynamic duo of Tommy and Tuppence in their series of sleuthing. Their first mission throws them head-on into the most important political scandal following the First World War, and they’ve never done anything like this before. To a certain reader the plot may seem optimistically fanciful, even absurd in the luck the pair seem to constantly have and the wild coincidences that occur, but if you allow yourself to be caught up in the antics Christie describes, you’ll fall deeply in love with each sudden twist and turn the story takes.

Agatha Christie places the reader in the center of the action, as if it’s your own eyes darting between observing Tommy’s hot pursuit or Tuppence’s gunpoint negotiations. The anticipation of learning the true identity of the Mr Brown and the cliff-hanging chapters make it almost impossible to put down!

Would I Recommend: Of course! Christie packs the book with action, suspense, comedy, and a little hint of romance; it’s an easily enjoyable novel.
