December 4th was Dragon Age Day, and for this year’s celebrations, Bioware pulled out all the stops.

In a ‘Journal’ post via their website, Bioware announced they were releasing the character creator for Veilguard in a free, standalone version that will be available on all platforms.

This means that those who have yet to buy the new game could still create their own ‘Rook’ – Veilguard’s player character. The Rooks created in the standalone creator will be usable when you buy the game – provided it’s on the same platform.

There will be no time limit on the character creator, which will come as good news for some players, especially streamer breebunn who Bioware specifically shouts out in their post. The streamer recently spent 21 hours making her perfect Rook and Inquisitor (the player character from Inquisition who returns here).

It’s not surprising that Bioware would pull out all the stops, as its previous installment Inquisition was released in November 2014 meaning it’s been a decade since Bioware has had a new Dragon Age game to celebrate DA Day with.

Bioware also released Patch 4, which, among other updates and bug fixes, includes the free gift of the iconic armour, body paint and nose blood smear of Hawke, Dragon Age II’s beloved protagonist, for players to dress their Rook in.

Hawke’s outfit will be available for players in the Lighthouse after downloading Patch 4 and completing the mission “The Singing Blade.”

Dragon Age: The Veilguard is available now on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
