Blossoms have to be one of the most hyped up and coming bands at present. A great sense of anticipation was felt as people from all corners of the UK flocked into the doors of their sold out show at London’s infamous Scala.

Blossoms’s unique brand of 60’s inspired pop translates fantastically into a live environment. The sound almost engulfs the spectator as the band recreates their catchy melodies on synths and guitars alike. Blossoms seem to have claimed their territory in the indiesphere due to their musical talents and large (for a band of their size) catalogue of songs which they select from to generate their set list.

Songs such as ‘Cut Me and I’ll Bleed’ and ‘At Most a Kiss’, which is taken from their freshly released EP of the same title, are very well received by the crowd. A notable proportion of said crowd recite the lyrics and jostle about enthusiastically with their arms in the air. Lead singer Tom Ogden takes a moment during the middle of the set to thank the support acts The Vryll Society (psychedelic, fellow Stockporters) and Inheaven (dream-pop quartet who recently played DIY’s ‘NEU’ tour). He then thanks Viola Beach, who were to support Blossoms on this tour but tragically recently passed away, and dedicates ‘Charlemagne’ to them.

Lesser known songs such as ‘Across The Moor’ and ‘My Favourite Room’ still generate a beaming reaction from the audience. Crowd favourite ‘Blow’ closes the evening with a raucous sing along. The band leave the stage in a smoky musical cacophony which prompts some of the crowd to conduct an acapella rendition of the song’s chorus.

Blossoms orchestrated a brilliant show which flaunted each facet of their musical identity and proved them to be an impressive live band. The audience were overjoyed and there was a communal sense that we were witnessing the start of something with an unpredictable trajectory. Blossoms have really come into fruition as a band over the past year as they’ve supported the likes of The Libertines, Courteeners and The Kooks. In addition to this they have also garnered the respect of Radio 1 heavyweights Huw Stephens and Annie Mac; making their way onto the BBC Sound of 2016 shortlist. Expect them to be graduating to larger venues in no time. The sky is the limit for Blossoms.
