‘SHE’S THE ONE’ by RAT BOY is an upbeat catchy new release that will charm any hopeless romantics. It was released on 21st August 2024 and is track eight of their newest album Suburbia Calling, set to release this Autumn.

RAT BOY used to solely be a stage name for Jordan Cardy, an English musician from Essex. However, it soon became a complete band, alongside members Liam Haygarth on the bass, Noah Booth on the drums and Harry Todd with the guitar. They combine the genres of punk, hip-hop and indie rock music to create their original style with an amalgamation of sounds.

The track provides a different angle for RAT BOY as it has one thematic focus which is love, unlike some of their previous releases which have multiple focus points. The song is very upbeat and rich with energy. It is a cheerful love song which provides a carefree, breezy vibe.

Although ‘SHE’S THE ONE’ has a unique sound, its breezy energy can be compared to Rupert Holmes’ ‘Escape’ with its general beachy background and the calming mindset they can put one in. There also appears to be inspiration from The Kinks’ ‘Sunny Afternoon’, again with its general disposition. Despite its high energy, it is a calming, relaxing song; one to listen to whenever and mentally places you walking down a beach in Brighton.

The simplicity of the lyrics are striking and allow the meaning of the song to be portrayed efficiently. The track opens with the lyrics “I never met someone like that before” immediately defining the song’s direction. The chorus has the lyric “I know that she’s the one and I wonder how to tell her that I love her” and again the straightforward writing is charming.

This love song definitely suits RAT BOY and provides a fresh new sound. It would be interesting to see further love songs released by them following the theme of an upbeat tune with simple, striking lyrics.

Their latest album Suburbia Calling will be out 4th October 2024.
