Pioneers of their own unique take on preppy bedroom-pop, the Atlanta-based bubblegum duo Coco & Clair Clair have been steadily rising on the music scene ever since the release of the Tik-Tok-adopted ‘Pretty’ in 2017.
With influences coming from the likes of Lana Del Rey and Saint Etienne, Coco & Clair Clair’s latest venture into eclectic pop presents itself in the woozy instrumentation of ‘Aggy’. Featuring sultry vocals staple to the duo, cheeky lyrics with delightfully cheeky rhyming couplets (“And lucky for you tattered ass clones // Lookin’ like a jester you’re no threat to the throne”) detail a carefree night of partying and romantic entanglements (“Lookin’ for the one that wants to make my name a tatty”).
Talking on the new track, the pair note; “We’re singing about leaving our cares behind and having a good night. No worries and no drama, just some good old-fashioned loving with your friends, your crush, your partner, whoever. What happened to having fun??”
This surprise release is the first of the year for the genre-bending best-friend duo, and while staying true to their fairy-pop routes (‘Atlanta Girls’, ‘Crushcrushcrush’), are expanding beyond into more electronic-based soundscapes.
With two albums already under their belt, their upcoming full-length project Girl is due to join their playful and already impressive discography 30th August.
