Sony has lifted the veil on Concord, its upcoming live-service hero shooter, developed by Firewalk Studios, sparking excitement in the video gaming community. Scheduled for a global release on August 23, 2024, Concord promises a rich multiplayer experience within a vibrant, ever-evolving universe.

This game is poised to be a significant addition to Sony’s lineup, launching simultaneously on PlayStation and PC alongside other major releases like Helldivers 2. Here’s everything we know so far about this highly anticipated game.

Gameplay and Features

Concord is a 5v5, character-driven, first-person multiplayer shooter that promises engaging gameplay, rewarding progression, and a robust selection of characters, maps, and game modes. Sony describes Concord as “a love letter to aspirational sci-fi adventure inspired by art, anime, films, and TV series.”

In Concord, players will assemble squads of Freegunners—an eclectic mix of misfits, outlaws, and adventurers, working as professional, guns-for-hire, taking on high-stakes missions across Wild Space. Each Freegunner is a unique character, from mystical spellcasters and towering robots to sharp-shooting gunslingers and stealthy snipers, offering a wide array of playstyles through their unique personalities and abilities. Weekly in-game premieres of cinematic vignettes will further develop the characters and their stories, providing an ongoing narrative.

Designed to accommodate all skill levels while offering depth for competitive players, Concord features a diverse roster of Freegunners that enhances strategic gameplay. Abilities such as casting firewalls, throwing explosive knives, and deploying defensive domes add layers of tactical options. Additionally, regular post-launch updates will bring new Freegunners, maps, game modes, and cinematic vignettes at no additional cost, ensuring an evolving and engaging gameplay experience.

Dual Editions

Concord is now available for pre-order, with two editions catering to different types of players. The Standard Edition, priced at $39.99 / £34.99 / €39.99 / ¥4,480, includes the full game with 16 playable characters, known as Freegunners, 12 unique maps, and six team-based game modes, with all post-launch updates included at no additional cost.

For those eager for a head start, the Digital Deluxe Edition offers additional perks for $59.99 / £49.99 / €59.99 / ¥6,480. It provides up to 72 hours of early access before the official launch and includes the Northstar Freegunner’s cosmetics pack, featuring 16 themed outfits, one for each Freegunner available at launch.

Beta Access and Pre-order

Sony has announced pre-launch beta access for Concord, accessible to those who pre-order the game. The beta will support cross-play between PS5 and PC, allowing players to collaborate with friends across platforms. Each pre-order grants only five beta codes, enabling early access during the Beta Early Access weekend in July.

Pre-orders for Concord are now live for PS5 at participating retailers and the PlayStation Store, while PC gamers can pre-purchase the game on Steam and the Epic Store. As the August release date approaches, stay tuned for more details about the beta in the coming weeks, including early access dates and open beta information.
