Launching the summer season at Shakespeare’s Globe, the cast has now been announced for Much Ado About Nothing which will run from 25 April to 24 August 2024.
Directed by associate artistic director Sean Holmes, Holmes describes the cast as “full of comedic dynamism and emotional heft” and promises a “vibrant, raucous and complex Much Ado.”
Ekow Quartey who most recently starred in The Witches, joins the cast as Benedik. Quartey has previously performed at Shakespeare’s Globe in Henry VIII, Macbeth and A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Quartey will be joined by Amalia Vitale in the role of Beatrice. Vitales theatre credits include Pandemonium and The Strange Case of Charlie Chaplin and Stan Laurel. TV credits include Willow on Disney+.
The wider cast comprises Jonnie Broadbent as Dogberry, Calum Callaghan as Borachio, Ryan Donalson as Don Pedro, Emma Ernest as Margaret, Lydia Fleming as Hero, Colm Gormley as Antonio / Verges, John Lightbody as Leonato, Robert Mountford as Don John, Dharmesh Patel as Conrade / Friar Francis and Adam Wadsworth as Claudio.
Much Ado About Nothing will be designed by Grace Smart, with Gary Olding as composer, Naeem Hayat as associate director and Tamsin Hurtado Clarke as movement director.
The Shakespeare Globe summer season will also include performances of Richard III, The Taming of the Shrew, Anthony and Cleopatra, The Comedy of Errors, Romeo and Juliet and Rough Magic.
