Apple TV+ have announced Elisabeth Moss and Kerry Washington are set to star in a new limited drama series ‘Imperfect Women’ based on the Araminta Hall novel of the same name.

First released in 2020, Hall’s novel is a psychological thriller that centres on three friends from college: Nancy, Eleanor, and Mary. When Nancy is murdered, Eleanor and Mary work to uncover the killer but discover far more secrets than they anticipated along the way. In Imperfect Women, white picket fences rust, family portraits crack, and the truth certainly has more than one form. Playing artfully with time and perspective, it will be intriguing to see how Apple Studios, in collaboration with 20th Television, translate this artfully crafted ‘whodunnit’ to the screen.

Hall, who will executive produce Imperfect Women alongside Moss, Washington, and Annie Weisman, has expressed her confidence in the project: “My book couldn’t be in better hands.”

Meanwhile, Weisman, who has previously worked with Apple TV+ on the comedy-drama Physical (2021-2023), has complimented her new colleagues saying “Elisabeth, Kerry, and Araminta are the perfect collaborators to bring these Imperfect Women to life.”

This is not Moss’ first collaboration with Apple TV+, she has previously led Shining Girls (2022), another thriller adapted for TV (in this case, Lauren Beukes’ 2013 novel). Likewise, Washington is no stranger to the book-to-TV adaptation having co-led Little Fires Everywhere (2020) alongside Reese Witherspoon based on Celeste Ng’s bestseller. It seems that the limited series is becoming the preferred medium of literary adaptation. This form provides more time for extra detail than a typical movie but it does not run the same risk of derailment from the original novel that a longer series might.

Imperfect Women is yet to have a release date but it will be exciting to see how Moss, Washington, Weisman, and Hall collaborate on this female-led thriller.
