The Prime Video original is making a comeback for another season, which will be its forth and final starring Robbie Amell, Andy Alo, Allegra Edwards, Zainab Johnson, as well as many more supporting castmates. With its latest season leaving the storyline on a cliffhanger, fans will be satisfied to hear another season is on its way.
Upload follows Nathan (Robbie Amell) after an accident leaves him dying. His girlfriend then authorises for his consciousness to be uploaded into the virtual world. Mystery around his death ensues with a healthy dose of comedy around his new virtual life.
During its three seasons, there has been a mix of comedy, sci-fi and drama tones woven into bitesize episodes (generally 30 minutes), which has seen audiences come back season after season. Airing during the pandemic in the UK (May 2020), it became a fan-favourite for its far-reaching plot, though familiar to us as a tech-based society. So, it was no surprise that Upload became Prime Video’s number one comedy series.
The creator Greg Daniels was also at the helm of The Office, so the satire tones and steady fanbase come as no shock. And like any great showrunner, Upload is coming to its rightful conclusion, with the intended length of the series being four seasons. Daniels went on to reflect on the renewal: “When I conceived Upload many years ago, I had the story arced out over four seasons, so I am thrilled to make the ending the fans deserve and the characters and creative team have been working towards.”
Robbie Amell returns to the world of TV with season four, after his most recent Netflix film Code 8 Part II as the lead and producer. Familiar with the realm of TV with previous roles in The Tomorrow People and The Flash, Amell is set to return with the rest of the recurring cast (though there’s no confirmation). Little else is known about the upcoming series but with seasoned showrunners and most of the cast starring in Upload since season one, fans are in safe hands.
