Wavves released their fifth studio album, V, on October  2nd 2015 through Ghost Ramp and Warner Bros. Records. Beginning in the late 2000’s, Wavves began making low-fi “surf-punk”. Four albums later, Wavves have continued to stay true to this sound while giving their fans a view of a different side of their music through their most recent album. Being the least distorted album of Wavves’ career thus far, V has a peppier, more up-beat sound with the same nihilistic, self- deprecating lyrics familiar to long time fans .

The album begins, “I’m not doing anything today. I don’t care what you say”, lyrics from the track ‘Heavy Metal Detox ’, setting the tone for the rest of the album. In essence, V is a compilation of William’s experiences and thoughts . Much of V was inspired by a breakup, alongside the band’s bad habits. The album is full of personal lyrics, touching on the issues of heartbreak, isolation, substance abuse, and nihilism. Themes common to teenagers, therefore making the album even more relevant. V truly encapsulates an inner feeling of angst and anti-establishment that many can easily relate to.

Prior to the release of V, many critics along with fans argued that Wavves’ albums had slowly begun to decline since the release of their most popular album, King of the Beach , in 2010. Yet, V has seemingly reasserted Wavves’ dominance as strong artists in their genre. Wavves knows exactly where they are headed, and V’s more mature sound paves the way for bigger and better projects to come.

With front man, Nathan William’s announcement of the forthcoming album, excitement began to build among fans. On July 16, 2015, the first single from the album, ‘Way Too Much’, was released. It was soon followed by the release of ‘Flamezesz’ shortly after in late July, and ‘Heavy Metal Detox ’ in early August. Williams gave fans a final preview of the album before its release with the single, ‘My Head Hurts’, exclusively played via the Beats One webcast. With the release of one- third of the album in singles, the excitement of Wavves’ fans was justified. These four singles showcased Wavves’ lyrical and instrumental talents.

Following the album’s release, Wavves will join Best Coast and Cherry Glazerr on their spring tour across the United States, titled Summer is Forever II. V is now available for purchase on Itunes and Amazon.
