The trailer for the second season of fan-favourite horror series Interview with the Vampire has been unveiled.
The AMC series is based on Anne Rice’s 1976 gothic novel of the same name, the first instalment in Rice’s Immortal Universe series. It follows Louis de Pointe’s (Jacob Anderson) descent into the vampire world after he is turned by Lestat de Lioncourt (Sam Reid); an account relayed to journalist Daniel Molloy (Eric Bogosian).
It is the first television adaptation of the series, though it previously had a movie adaptation in 1994 — a highly-applauded hit with Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt. This newest series has received an equally warm reception, with praise for the main actors’ performances and take on themes of racism and queerness, as it reimagines Louis as a black, gay man in 1900s New Orleans. It was nominated for several awards, and Rotten Tomatoes revealed it be their “best reviewed horror series of 2022,’ as well as one of the best-reviewed new series of the year.
As anticipated, the new trailer was also well-received at the San Diego Comic-Con. While the first season covered one half of the first book, the second season will explore the other, with Louis and his fledgling, Claudia, moving to Paris and joining a traveling theatre troupe. What’s more, it will introduce new a new cast and characters, such as Roxane Duran as Madeleine and Ben Daniels as Santiago. The trailer also gives us the first glimpse of Delainey Hayles as Claudia after she takes over the role from Bailey Bass.
Despite reports of the series being largely unaffected by the SAG-AFTRA strikes, which began on July 14 2023, production has since been delayed. It began earlier in April this year, with filming locations including Paris, New Orleans, and Prague. AMC however, is still hopeful they can release the second season next year, as promised in the trailer.
Series two of Interview with the Vampire is slated to have eight episodes, and AMC expects it to arrive sometime in “early-to-mid 2024.”
