Fans will be heading back to Cousins beach this summer. The second season of The Summer I Turned Pretty will begin its release on Amazon Prime Video on July 14th, starting with three episodes. From then on, an episode will be available weekly (in line with Amazon’s new streaming rollout), until the series has finished its eight-episode season on August 16th.

The Summer I Turned Pretty‘s return to Amazon will see Belly (Lola Tung) again as she visits Cousins beach; all whilst dealing with the knowledge of Susannah’s (Rachel Blanchard) cancer, her turbulent feelings for the Fisher brothers (Conrad played by Christopher Briney and Jeremiah played by Gavin Casalegno), and even “an unexpected visitor who threatens the future of Susannah’s beloved house”, according to the official synopsis.

Season two is likely to continue the themes of its predecessor season and draw from the trilogy by Jenny Han—of which its adapted from. The first season was a coming-of-age tale, wherein Belly pursues teenage experiences with beach parties, dates, and debutante balls, whilst dealing with the well-worn trope—the love triangle. Yet with TSITP being branded a “multi-generational drama“, other storylines like Laurel (Jackie Chung) and Susannah are likely to continue taking a frontal role this season. Though, romance is still on the cards, with each episode title beginning with ‘Love’.

The recent release of the season two poster confirms those returning, like Steven (Sean Kaufman) and Taylor (Rain Spencer), as well as those bidding goodbye to Cousins beach. Shayla (Minnie Mills), a fan-favourite and a completely new character for the TV adaptation, is not set to return. She marked her exit with an Instagram post after fans queried her absence from the poster. However, new characters like Kyra Sedgwick (Lemon Sky) and Else Fisher (Eight Grade) are confirmed to join in recurring roles—though not much else is known about their roles.

Recently, Entertainment Weekly released a preview of a winter scene between Belly and Conrad adapted from the books. Han spoke to EW: “We knew how important the scene was for the fans. The books came out so long ago and people have read them and re-read them, and so they have those words really imprinted in their memories.” However, like any adaptation process, changes have been made. “She’s the one in control of the whole scene and Conrad’s following her lead.” This snippet showcases there’s plenty in store, new and familiar, for fans of the TV series.

The Summer I Turned Pretty season one is available to stream on Amazon Prime Video.
