“When you are empty inside, with no direction, you end up in some crazy places,” states Jennifer Coolidge’s Tanya McQuoid in season two of HBO’s mega-hit The White Lotus. Well, our next crazy place has finally been announced after months of speculation. Season one had our uber-rich clientele enjoying Hawaii and the second hosted some murderous gays on the coast of Sicily, season three will find us hating on the upper echelon as they explore Thailand.

Now don’t read us incorrectly, for Thailand is far from crazy, but following the antics of the Emmy-winning series, there is no doubt that the next series is bound to house a collection of unsavoury antics. With Tanya now having tragically, albeit hilariously, passed on it is likely we will be encountering a completely new cast of WASPs and tech moguls as they ingest the best Southeast Asia has to offer.

Since premiering in July 2021, The White Lotus proved to be a surprise success. Originally intended as a six-part limited series, high ratings, critical acclaim and a string of awards resulted in a second-season renewal and transformed the project into an anthology series. Much like the unexpected extension of the project, the return of fan favourite Coolidge in the second series allowed the project to exceed expectations even further. From iconic lines such as “These Gays! They’re trying to murder me!” to her Monica Vitti-inspired look being compared to that of Peppa Pig, the meme-ability of the series has resulted in a further increase in its popularity.

In terms of release dates and themes, little information is currently available. With the first series having focused on money and power and the second shifting to the politics surrounding sex and gender roles, series creator Mike White has suggested that the third iteration is likely to poke fun at religion and spirituality.

As for when we can expect a third season to hit our screens? Following the release pattern of the first two seasons, don’t be expecting to visit The White Lotus resort until sometime in the New Year of 2024 — a wait that we’re sure will be worth it.

You can stream the first two seasons of The White Lotus on NowTV.
