4 Acts Of Self-Care That You Can Do This Spring

At this time of year, we begin to feel the heat of the sun, along with the seemingly natural existential dread that the passage of time brings. What now? With time flying by, once more, spring is underway.

Luckily, there are activities that suit the weather, some of them even fuelling the feeling of having life together. Here are some acts of self-care you can do this spring.

1. Engage in a hobby that requires good weather

Whether it’s plein air painting or rollerskating, taking the time to engage in a hobby you are familiar with can shake off the dust bunnies your creative side has been collecting.

Going out to sketch the picturesque scenery or groove to your favourite Beach Boys song on rollerskates will reinvigorate your spirits and shake off the drabness that accumulated through winter.

If you are not seasoned in the hobbies you want to undertake, you can easily pick them up with the growing supply of Vitamin D to keep you going.

2. Make use of scenic views and take some photos!

With the advent of the digital age came the rise of phone photography. Use your mobile device to snap photos of golden hour, or organise a casual shoot with friends.

Make use of the excellent lighting in the park and wear your best outfit!

If you feel like taking it up a notch, there are many sites where you can find second-hand digital cameras for that Y2K aesthetic. This increases appreciation for all that is around you.

3. Spend some time journalling

The wise ones say “You are never as young as you are right now”.

Take advantage of this time in your life by keeping a journal; it does not have to be a thorough, hand-written exposition detailing your inner demons and deepest fears.

Even a short phrase or a quirky doodle will suffice. More importantly, do not forget that acknowledging the bad also means recognising the good.

Reflect on how far you have come from the person you were last year. After a while, you will notice you have a beautiful visualisation of what goes on within the walls of your mind.

4. Welcome and embrace the sunshine

Set the drapes aside and let the natural light enter your home. Reading on the couch and seeing the beautiful golden filter reflecting on the crisp pages of a Virginia Woolf book is a special kind of comfort.

Although we are wired to have our moods change with the seasons, the innate desire to create and live vigorously remains constant.

During spring, the Earth’s axis starts to tilt towards the sun, as we do towards the pursuit of a better and brighter life. Fulfil your vital needs, give into your wholesome wants, and feel comfortable in the tender hands of a life where you are happy. You are meant to be there.
