Peacock’s limited series, Apples Never Fall, has added two new members to its cast, Jake Lacy and Alison Brie. Lacy is best known for his role in The Office as season nine newcomer Pete Miller, and as Shane Patton in season one of The White Lotus. Brie notably starred in ABC sitcom Community as Annie Edison, with more recent film roles including rom-com Somebody I Used to Know, and the Academy-Award winning Promising Young Woman.
Lacy and Brie will play Troy and Amy Delaney, and will join Academy Award-nominee Annette Bening as Joy Delaney—the head of the family. Sam Neill (known for Jurassic Park and Peaky Blinders) will also star as Stan Delaney. However, the two youngest Delaney children are yet to be cast.
Apples Never Fall is an adaptation of Liane Moriarty’s 2021 novel of the same name, which has sold over one million copies worldwide. Apples Never Fall will mark the third of Moriarty’s novels to receive a TV series adaptation, with HBO’s Big Little Lies garnering critical acclaim over its two season run with eight Primetime Emmy awards, and most recently, Hulu’s Nine Perfect Strangers starring Nicole Kidman.
Moriarty’s novels are typically domestic mysteries, following familial conflict or secrets within a small town, and Apples Never Fall is no exception. The novel is a family drama, following the grown-up Delaney siblings (Amy, Logan, Troy, and Brooke) as they reexamine family history and uncover hidden secrets after the disappearance of their mother and the arrival of a stranger at their house. Competitive tennis also plays a prominent role in the novel, as Joy (Bening) and Stan (Neill) are retired tennis coaches, and their children were tennis stars in their own right. The series appears to be following the same plotline.
Melanie Marnich serves as the writer, showrunner and one of the executive producers. David Heyman, author Liane Moriarty, Albert Page, and Jillian Share will also executive produce.
