The award-winning play Vermin is set to make its London debut at the Arcola Theatre this spring.
Following success at the 2022 Edinburgh Fringe Festival, the cast and crew are reuniting in a collaboration by The REcreate Agency and critically acclaimed theatre company Triptych Theatre.
On the outside, Billy and Rachel seem the idyllic—if a little eccentric—couple facing a rat problem. The two are polar opposites in how they deal with the issue. Billy faces the creatures with violence, while Rachel treats them with respect and motherly love. Yet lurking below the floorboards of their first home is a much darker, more unshakeable horror which the couple have no choice but to confront, no matter how damaging or deadly the consequences.
Written by Benny Ainsworth, directed by Michael Parker, and starring Sally Paffett alongside Ainsworth, Vermin is an unsettling and heart-breaking dark comedy that peels back the layers of unchecked grief.
Since its release at the Edinburgh Fringe, the production has received positive reviews. It was heralded by the British Theatre Guide as “truly one of a kind,” while The Stage surmised it as “a tautly and effectively told story that makes for an unsettling but compelling experience.”
The REcreate Agency was founded in 2020 by Reece McMahon and Emily Beecher, and it is a multidisciplinary creative agency that works to develop potential in independent artists, producers and projects.
Vermin will run from 14 March–1 April, with tickets ranging from £15–£23.
