A new mobile app GalaPro can be used at the Adelphi Theatre, which is currently staging Back To The Future The Musical.

The app provides audio description and captioning for audience members as they watch the show. Users have to input a unique show code to access these features, and can then start the description or captions as the show begins.

The app can also function in Airplane mode, helping to avoid disruption. The text is displayed on a black background, also avoiding bright lights. The app’s unique features aim to create a more accessible environment for theatre experiences.

GalaPro is available on both IOS and Android, and was initially used for a production of School of Rock in 2019.

Back To The Future The Musical will also provide captioned and audio-described performances later in 2023.

The adaptation of the popular film stars Ben Joyce (Marty McFly) and Roger Bart (Doc Brown), as well as Amber Davies (Lorraine Baines) and Oliver Nicholas (George McFly). Directed by Tony Award-winning John Rando, the production has been running since September 2021 at the Adelphi Theatre.

The musical won the 2022 Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Musical, as well as the 2022 WhatsOnStage Award for Best New Musical.

GalaPro is also currently being used for productions of Hamilton, & Juliet, Wicked and Six on Broadway.
