Democratic Senator and former Presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders is set to publish a new book surrounding his vision for political revolution in the US, titled It’s OK to Be Angry About Capitalism.
Due to be released in February 2023, Sanders’ book will be centered around the ever-pressing issues of wealth disparity and class inequality in America, and will call its readers to action.
As its publisher Penguin Random House states, the book is a “progressive takedown of the uber-capitalist status quo that has enriched millionaires and billionaires at the expense of the working class, and a blueprint for what transformational change would actually look like”.
Indeed, Sanders is no stranger to extensive criticism of the American and global political and economic systems. Having represented the state of Vermont in Congress since 1990, he has fought for a number of social democratic and progressive policies throughout his political career, including a $16 trillion ‘Green New Deal’, free college tuition, a $15 federal minimum wage, and expanded background checks on gun sales.
Over the course of his career, Sanders has risen to the status of one of the most famous leftist politicians in the world, and certainly one of America’s most prominent political figures. He is currently the longest serving independent member of Congress in American history, and has consistently been polled as one of the country’s most liked politicians.
It’s OK to Be Angry About Capitalism will thus be Sander’s sixth publication. His previous books include his most popular release, Our Revolution: A Future to Believe In, and his most recent, Where We Go from Here, published in 2018 as a timely response to the 2016-2020 Trump administration. His new book will also feature editorial contributions from esteemed progressive author and journalist John Nichols.
Sanders’ previous publications have been praised for their nuanced, well-informed criticisms of America’s flawed political and economic systems and the ways in which both the Republicans and Democrats perpetuate their problems. Furthermore, Sanders has consistently demonstrated his ability to present a clear, persuasive manifesto for a different future.
Ultimately, It’s OK to Be Angry About Capitalism is set to be another damning indictment of the US political system by Sanders – but it should also be a platform with which he can promote a fresh, hopeful vision of a different America in 2023 and beyond.
